The Intelliplug TVA105 is the world first “intelligent plug” that can completely eliminate standby power. Televisions typically use around 4W of Power when in standby. That may not sound a lot but consider your TV maybe in standby for over 20hours a day. That calculates at almost 30kWh for one TV over the course of the year and with rising energy prices money and resources are being wasted. Contributes to the amount of CO2 emissions the UK produces. So not only can the Intelliplug save you money, but can also help the environment, because of this, the price of the product will be affected. But how?...

The Intelliplug TVA105 has a retail price of £19.99 and on average pays for itself within 12months dependant on the number of connected peripherals. (One Click Technologies) If everyone in the UK switched off unused appliances it would save £800 million a year. Leaving appliances plugged in and switched on at the socket means they're still using energy – so turn TVs, games consoles and mobile phone chargers off at the mains to save yourself money. (DirectGov) If everyone across the EU remembered to turn off the standby button on their television, it would save more than 8100GWh per year – the same amount that would be produced by two whole power stations. (ee-tv.org)

EU have decided to introduce a new standard in 2013 requiring all new TV’s to meet a minimum efficiency standard. If by 2020 all TV’s meet this standard then energy consumption from TV’s in the EU will be 81TWh per annum. This represents a saving of 35 million tonnes of CO2 each year. (ee-tv.org) In an effort to cut the consumption of electrical power of television sets, manufacturers will be encouraged to reduce electrical power consumption of the items even when they have been switched off. According to the International Trade and Industry Ministry estimates, the new standards will save about 3.7 billion kilowatt-hours of energy. (Nexis)

Government advertisements persuades society to be more concerned about energy consumption therefore increasing demand for energy saving products such as the TVA105. The legislation introduced by such governments has encouraged One Click Technologies Ltd to be innovative and hence design a product that that is sufficient with such legislation in place. But how has government legislation affected the TVA105?…

Government legislation has resulted in One Click Technologies investing into research and development which will increase the price of the product until the R&D costs are covered. This product could be considered “environmentally friendly” which gives the product an unique selling point, which adds value to the product. The fact that the product can save you money will increase the price. The increase of the price is proportional to the amount the product can save consumers. Factors that Increase The Price of The TVA105

(EcoAction) The graph shows Energy Prices may increase 110% by Therefore this product will save its consumers more money so the product price is increased. The reliability of this research is limiting as it is a forecast and predictions cannot be calculated accurately as there maybe unknown factors.

Factors that Reduce the Price of The TVA105 Due to the legislation being introduced in 2013 requiring new TV’s to meet the minimum efficiency standard TV manufacturers may decide to develop a product that functions similarly and One Click Technologies will need to remain competitive. Consumers will only buy the product if it is going to save them money on there electricity bills therefore the pricing is highly dependant on future energy prices.

One Click Technologies ethical decision to invest in R&D of an environmental product increases the price of the product. The government are keen to reduce environmental impacts such as CO2 emissions. They are focusing on trying to reduce energy consumption in the home. They have proposed new standards to reduce the energy consumption of TV’s and have released a series of adverts advising turning off TV’s at the socket rather than leaving them on standby. This encourages society to buy products such as the TVA105 hence increasing demand for the product. As there is a higher demand then One Click Technologies can increase the price. Another Factor is the price of electricity. The TVA105 is designed to save its customers money in the long term. The price will be directly affected by the price of electricity. Forecasts show massive increases in energy prices therefore the TVA105 will save its consumers more money and can demand a higher price because of this.
