What is Company Culture?  Company culture is a company’s personality  It tells people how to do their work  It takes its signals from its leaders  It underlies motivation, morale, creativity and marketplace success

Company Culture  It determines how members act, their energy level, enthusiasm, innovation, motivation, productivity.  A negative company culture is often at the root of difficult people related problems (such as motivation, morale, absenteeism, etc.)

Company Culture  Companies with well developed culture easily outperform competitors  It is similar to personality –It can be described as “friendly” “tough” “aggressive” “open”  Tells us how to behave  Reflects leadership style  Many are poorly developed

Mission Statements & Vision Statements  These are inspiring words chosen by successful leaders to clearly and concisely convey the direction of the organization.  Clear statements will powerfully communicate your intentions and motivate your team or organization to realize a future.

Mission Statement  Defines the organizations purpose and primary objectives  It is internal, for leadership and stockholders  Tells the bottom line

Mission Statement  Example –For Farm Fresh Produce: To become the number one produce store in Main Street by selling the highest quality, freshest farm produce, from farm to customer in under 24 hours on 75% of our range and with 98% customer satisfaction.

Vision Statement  Defines values of the organization  Gives direction to employees  Tells customers why they should work with the organization

Vision Statement  Example: –Farm Fresh Produce: We help the families of Main Town live happier and healthier lives by providing the freshest, tastiest and most nutritious local produce; From local farms to your table in under 24 hours.

Creating a Mission Statement  1. Identify the winning idea –This is how you will stand out –Why customers come to you and not competitors  2. Identify key measure of your success –98% customer satisfaction  3. Combine idea and measures into a tangible goal. –“become number one”

Creating a Mission Statement  4. Refine the words until you have a concise and precise statement. –Usually only one or two sentences long.

Creating a Vision Statement  A typical vision statement contains three components: 1. The overall purpose of your business - what are you trying to achieve, why are you in business 2. What your business does - products and services it provides 3. What's important to your business - the values your business lives by
