New Orleans Green Roof Project JP Luster

New Orleans Flooding Problems  Geography  90 miles of underground and above ground canals  22 pumping stations  29 million gallons a day  64 inches of rain a year

Solution: Green Roofs  Two Types: extensive and intensive  Controlling runoff  percent decrease in runoff  Peak flow reduced by 50 percent

Problems?  The cost  Extensive- 8 to 20 dollars per square foot  Intensive- 15 to 25 dollars per square foot  Other considerations  Maintenance, labor fees, rented equipments, etc.

Other Benefits  Lengthen the life of infrastructure, pipes, etc.  Metal health  Reduce heat island effects  Save on energy consumption  Create a tax benefit?
