Chapter 3 AED

AED STEPS 1- Turn On AED 2- Wipe Bare Chest Dry (if wet or sweaty) 3- Attach AED pads to chest using pictures on Pads 4- Plug in Connector if necessary 5- Stand Clear 6- Analyze Heart Rhythm. Push Analyze button on AED 7- Deliver Shock if advised. Say stand Clear and push shock button 8- Perform CPR for 2 minutes (5cycles). Continue to follow prompts of AED

AED Precautions Do Not use alcohol to wipe the person’s chest dry. Alcohol is flammable. Do Not use AED pads designed for adults on a child younger than 8 years old or under 55 pounds. Do Not use Pediatric AED pads on an adult. Pediatric AED pads deliver lower levels of energy than adult pads Do Not touch the person while AED is analyzing. Do Not touch the person while the AED is Shocking. Do Not use an AED if the victim is in contact with water.

Review Check the Scene Check the person (Tap + Shout) Call Look listen and feel for breathing (could also check pulse) Head tilt/ chin lift 2 Breaths 30 compressions Repeat cycle until EMS or AED.
