Maori are the indigenous people of New Zealand. They are descendants of the Polynesian explorers who first settled the islands of New Zealand who came from an area of the Pacific known as Hawaiki.

Throughout history, the Mäori population has been concentrated in the North Island. In 1996, 87.5 percent of the Mäori population lived in the North Island. Over half of this group lived in either Auckland, Waikato or the Bay of Plenty regional council areas.

This is a picture of the different types of tribes who lived in different towns.

Thank you for watching our show. Goodbye!!!
