Presentation transcript:

I TIMOTHY 6:17-19 17 Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. 18 Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. 19 By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.

BE POSITIVE! GENEROUS

WHAT IS IMPORTANT? The word believe is used 272 times. The word pray is used 371 times. The word love is used 714 times. The word give is used 2,161 times.

PSALMS 37:21 21 The wicked borrow and never repay, but the godly are generous givers.

PROVERB 11:25 25 The generous will prosper;     those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.

II CORINTHIANS 8:1-12 8 Now I want you to know, dear brothers and sisters, what God in his kindness has done through the churches in Macedonia. 2 They are being tested by many troubles, and they are very poor. But they are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity. 3 For I can testify that they gave not only what they could afford, but far more. And they did it of their own free will. 4 They begged us again and again for the privilege of sharing in the gift for the believers in Jerusalem. 5 They even did more than we had hoped, for their first action was to give themselves to the Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do.

CONTINUED….. 6 So we have urged Titus, who encouraged your giving in the first place, to return to you and encourage you to finish this ministry of giving. 7 Since you excel in so many ways—in your faith, your gifted speakers, your knowledge, your enthusiasm, and your love from us—I want you to excel also in this gracious act of giving. 8 I am not commanding you to do this. But I am testing how genuine your love is by comparing it with the eagerness of the other churches. 9 You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich.

CONTINUED….. 10 Here is my advice: It would be good for you to finish what you started a year ago. Last year you were the first who wanted to give, and you were the first to begin doing it. 11 Now you should finish what you started. Let the eagerness you showed in the beginning be matched now by your giving. Give in proportion to what you have. 12 Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have.

ATTITUDE OF GENEROUSITY 1. Give joyfully.

ACTS 20:35 35 And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

II CORINTHIANS 9:7 7 You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”

PROVERBS 21:26 26 Some people are always greedy for more, but the godly love to give!

ATTITUDE OF GENEROUSITY 2. Give selflessly.

II CORINTHIANS 8:5 5 They even did more than we had hoped, for their first action was to give themselves to the Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do.

JOHN 3:16 16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

II CORINTHIANS 9:15 15 Thank God for this gift too wonderful for words!

ATTITUDE OF GENEROUSITY 3. Give willingly.

II CORINTHIANS 8:12 12 Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have.

ATTITUDE OF GENEROUSITY 4. Give thankfully.

PSALMS 116:12 12 What can I offer the Lord     for all he has done for me?

I CHRONICLES 29:14 14 But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you? Everything we have has come from you, and we give you only what you first gave us!

EXODUS 13:14-15 14 “And in the future, your children will ask you, ‘What does all this mean?’ Then you will tell them, ‘With the power of his mighty hand, the Lord brought us out of Egypt, the place of our slavery. 15 Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, so the Lord killed all the firstborn males throughout the land of Egypt, both people and animals. That is why I now sacrifice all the firstborn males to the Lord— except that the firstborn sons are always bought back.’

ATTITUDE OF GENEROUSITY 5. Give intentionally.

II CORINTHIANS 9:7 7 You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”

THE PROMISE: You cannot out give God.

BE POSITIVE! GENEROUS
