Migratory Bird Program - Conserving America’s Birds Migratory Bird Treaty Centennial Overview August 16, 2016, marks the centennial of the Convention between the United States and Great Britain (for Canada) for the Protection of Migratory Birds This treaty and the three that followed - with Mexico, Japan and Russia - form the cornerstones of efforts to conserve birds that migrate across international borders Treaties connect the Service with partners who conserve, protect, and manage migratory bird populations and their habitats

Migratory Bird Program - Conserving America’s Birds Migratory Bird Treaty Centennial Migratory Bird Treaty signed in 1916 Migratory Bird Treaty Act passed in 1918 to implement the Treaty Establishes Federal prohibition, unless permitted by regulations, to "pursue, hunt, take, capture, kill, attempt to take, capture or kill, possess…”, etc., migratory birds, their parts, nests & eggs Applies to migratory birds named in the Treaty In 2016, we celebrate the Treaty and century of cooperation it inspired Emphasizing awareness of international cooperation on bird conservation through partnerships We also recognize the importance of the Act and the conservation successes it enforcement has led to The Treaty and the Act
