FLOWERING PLANT REPRODUCTION and PLANT RESPONSE EQ: How are the carpal and stamen different and similar?

Four Organs: Nonreproductive: Sepals Petals Reproductive: Stamen (male) Carpel(female)

Petal: Leaf-like, usually colorful structure arranged in a circle around the top of the flower stem Sepal: Leaf-like, usually green and encircle the flower stem beneath the petals Stamen: Male reproductive structure of the flower. Made up of the anther & filament. – Anther: The tip of the stamen. Produces the pollen containing sperm – Filament: Stalk that holds up the anther. Carpel: Female reproductive structure. Made up of stigma, style, ovary. – Stigma: a sticky or feathery portion, specialized to capture pollen – Style: Stalk that holds up the stigma. – Ovary: which contains one or more ovules, where female gametophytes are produced

Complete Flower = contains all 4 organs “Perfect”  Male and Female flower

Incomplete Flower = lacks one or more organs “Imperfect”  Male or Female flowers

Wind “Pollination”

Animals: Bees Butterflies Moths Beetles Flies Hummingbirds Bats
