Sources of conflict Competition: “one-upper,” jealousy Opinions: argumentative or hostile to other views Misunderstanding: failure to communicate Power: struggle for control, power Behavior: your actions may cause irritation or trigger fears in others Pride: prejudiced; fearful of other cultures
Responses to conflict Fight = with fists or armies Flight = run away or ignore the issue Negotiation = one person tries to get an advantage over the other through discussion or argument Compromise = both talk through a settlement or work out an agreement
Why do people go to war? To better their way of life – Persia invaded Greece in the battle of Thermopylae for more territory, food, and resources. To protect their way of life – Greece fought back against the Persians to resist becoming another part of the Persian Empire.
