Dr Music’s Test Yourself Kit How do you feel? SCORE YOURSELF OUT OF 10 AT THE START AND END OF THE EXPERIMENT

If you don’t believe me Professor Hans Guenther Bastian from the Institute of Musical Education at Frankfurt University has proved that Concentrations of immunoglobin A – proteins in the immune system which function as antibodies and hydrocortisone – an anti-stress hormone significantly increased after singing. (Tests carried out on choir members rehearsing Mozarts Requim taking saliva samples at the start and end of 60 minutes!)

Button up Your Overcoat Button up your overcoat When the wind is free Oh, take good care of yourself You belong to me! Eat an apple every day Get to bed by three Oh take good care of yourself You belong to me! Be careful crossing streets, ooh-ooh Cut out sweets, ooh-ooh You’ll get a pain and ruin your tum-tum! Wear your flannel underwear When you climb a tree Oh, take good care of yourself You belong to me! Don’t sit on hornet’s tails, oooh-ooh! Or on nails, ooh-ooh! Or third rails, ooh-ooh! You’ll get a pain and ruin your tum-tum!

Singing is Good for You! Singing releases endorphins to make you feel energised and uplifted Singing gives your lungs a workout Singing tones abdominal muscles and the diaphragm stimulates circulation Singing makes you breathe more deeply than some more strenuous exercise You take in more oxygen, improve aerobic capacity and release muscle tension

Sing away your worries! Singing: Improves your mood Relieves stress Improves sleep Helps you forget your painful tooth, leg … Improves posture Lung capacity increases Clears sinuses and respiratory tables Mental alertness improves Tones facial and stomach muscles

Sing AHH for 2 minutes To banish your blues! It forces oxygen into the blood which signals the brain to release mood- lifting ENDORPHINS

If I cannot fly Let me sing Stephen Sondheim

I listened, wide eyed to a voice Like chocolate If singing had a colour it would be the colour of that chocolate

Words make you think Music makes you feel A song makes you feel a thought
