CULTURAL DISTRICT APPLICATION by the WIMBERLEY VALLEY ARTS and CULTURAL ALLIANCE

THE WIMBERLEY VISITOR CENTER Interior Design by Eric Quinn/Quinn Interiors

Wimberley Valley Arts and Cultural Alliance Will support a vibrant cultural arts community through appreciation, collaboration and education Will increase awareness of Wimberley as an arts destination Will strengthen cooperation between Wimberley arts and cultural groups

The Importance of an Arts Alliance “The key is to treat the arts as an essential part of the city’s identity. Successful creative placemaking builds the economy at the local level, enhances surrounding non-arts businesses and provides job opportunities and ways for individuals to participate in activities associated with the arts and cultural events. The results bring people together, spark community pride and create a more vibrant place.” (National Endowment for the Arts)

The Arts as a Destination “In 2011, the average travel party to Texas spent $782 per trip. Travel parties participating in Museums and Art Exhibits activities spent $1,246 per trip, 59 percent more than the average travel party.” “Four of the top ten activities for non-resident visitors are arts, culture, and history-related.” (Texas Cultural Trust)

Cultural District Texas Cultural Districts through the Texas Commission on the Arts provide grants, information, and services in support of the arts and cultural industry in Texas. “Cultural districts are special zones that harness the power of cultural resources to stimulate economic development and community revitalization. These districts can become focal points for generating businesses, attracting tourists, stimulating cultural development and fostering civic pride.” (Texas Commission on the Arts) “…acceptance into the program provides a legitimacy that can be a boon to a community’s efforts to market itself and secure outside financing.” (Texas Tribune)
