Thursday 26 th June 9.00 Leave school Arrive at Birdoswald – leave all luggage in the entrance to the accommodation (as suggested by site) Morning snack Explore the site – museum / fort and near wall Lunch Walk on Hadrians Wall 3.00 Children take bags / belongings into the farmhouse and unpack / explore 4.00 – 5.30 Instructor led session. Maximus the Roman soldier will enlist the help of the children into the Roman army and the children will do their training! 5.30 Tea (provided by the centre) 6.30 Evening activities and play in the fort area 8.30 Toast and story

Friday 27 th June 8.00 Breakfast Tidy and sort rooms / collect personal belongings 9.00 Explore Roman wall remains in opposite direction to previous day Helmet making activity (led by centre staff) Shop (in small groups) Lunch 1.00 Leave Birdoswald 2.00 Arrive and have 1 hour play at Rhegged Discovery Centre (Penrith) on Roman Fort outdoor area (weather permitting) 3.00 Leave Rhegged 4.00 Arrive back at school

Clothing and Kit List The weather in Cumbria is notoriously cold and wet, even in mid summer. The centre does have laundry facilities and a drying room so clothes can be washed and dried if necessary for a small charge. Listed below are items which visitors are recommended to bring. 1 pair of outdoor shoes or walking boots 1 pair of indoor shoes or trainers A warm, waterproof jacket Jumper(s) T shirts Underwear Socks for walking boots Ordinary socks Trousers/track suit bottoms (its is advisable not to bring jeans for during the day) Towels Night wear Woollen hat/ Gloves Bin liner (to take home wet/dirty clothes) Toothpaste and brush Toiletries - shampoo, soap etc., sanitary items. Handkerchiefs/tin of plasters/torch Any prescribed medicine Sun cream General everyday wear for evening and recreation time A cuddly toy!

Food Bring a packed lunch for the 1 st day and snack Tea and supper for the 1 st day and lunch for the 2 nd will be provided Please make us aware of any food intolerances on the parents form Bring a bottle of water

Money The children need £1 for the Roman Fort at Rhegged. Apart from that it is up to you. The only place where they could spend any money is in the shop at the site which is well resourced with Roman souvenirs Any money needs to be in a purse/wallet and named. It will be collected on Thursday morning and given to the children on Friday before shop time.

Important!! No phones / electronic games. Children can bring colouring / book to read / ball or small outdoor games. This is an historical site – no climbing on any part of the wall it can be dangerous. There is a walk planned as part of the visit and this will happen whatever the weather! Children need to stay within range of an adult at all times.
