Welcome to Ms. Rawley’s 4 th Grade Class Curriculum Night

4 th Grade Page   Schafer  4 th Grade Here you will find what we will learn this year in each core subject as well as expectations for homework and behavior.

Reading Class Lesson/Mini Lesson (SCHOOLWIDE Curriculum) I will work with small groups and individual students on strategies that we learn in our daily reading lessons.  Spelling  Writing  Grammar  Note Taking Skills  Guided Reading  Comprehension Strategies  Vocabulary Students will be reading a lot in the classroom with material at their level. Instruction is very individualized. Grades will be based on proficiency in these strategies.

Homework Policy  The assignment notebook should be signed each night by the parent/guardian to show that it has been seen.  Homework is due first thing in the morning of the day indicated in the assignment notebook. If it is not turned in consistently, a conference between the parents and the teacher will be required.

What will homework look like?  Reading Log !!!  20 minutes of reading 5 times per week  Due every Monday  Please monitor and sign sheet weekly  Study spelling words  Study for tests  Math facts  Class work not completed  Special projects  Around minutes per night  Please check assignment notebook daily

 Make school work and reading a priority.  Expect your child to always do their best.  Promote positive and respectful relationships, behaviors, and language.  Be aware of your child’s progress in school and personal growth. Curriculum at Home

Check child’s backpack for homework and assignment notebook daily. Supervise and check completion of child’s homework. Bring homework materials home. Complete daily homework assignments well and on time. Respectful, Responsible Behavior Model respectful, responsible behavior. Make sure students understand and follow school programs, rules, and policies. Model respectful, responsible behavior. Know and support school programs, rules, and policies. Be respectful and responsible. Follow school programs, rules, and policies. Reading Provide high quality reading instruction. Assist students in selecting reading materials. Model reading as a lifestyle. Read to your child or supervise independent reading daily. Focus attention when reading. Use the IPICK strategy to choose books. Read at home daily. Communication Make sure students receive and take home-school communications. EXAMPLE: Assignment notebooks and Friday Folders Inform parents about the learning goals and objectives. Check child’s backpack daily for home-school communications. Contact me with any questions! Inform me if there is something at home that might be interfering with your child’s learning. Reinforce what is being taught in school at home. Make sure home-school communications get home and come back to school. Know and be able to explain what they are learning in school.
