Introduction to JASON OWENS MAED STUDENT AT ASHFORD UNIVERSITY AND ELL TEACHER
A little bit about me Hello everyone my name is Jason Owens, I am 41 I am a twenty year military veteran of the US Army and I have a BA Ed in English Language Learner Studies from Ashford. I am originally from a small town called Fortuna in Humboldt County California, but I currently live in Chattanooga, Tennessee with my Fiancée Rebecca. We both are ESOL teachers in the school district. Before this school year I spent a year in China teaching English there in the worlds largest city Shanghai with Disney English part of the Walt Disney company. After this school year my fiancée and I will be moving to Long Beach California where we have ELL educational jobs awaiting us and family.
My K-12 Educational Experiance I grew up in a military family. My father was in the Navy for 30 years. So we moved every 3-4 years. This made school an experience. Grades K-8 I went to four different schools, and then two different high schools. For the most part my educational experience was with a K-12 system developed by the Department of Defense or DoDDS (Department of Defense Dependents Schools). The school system was created so that parents who where stationed overseas could have their children in a US style school system in countries where the school system was different or lower quality.
My Degree Program I am currently working on my MAED with a specialty in ELL education. I have my BA in Education with a focus on ELL education. My current job is ESOL teacher here in Chattanooga I will be a ELL teacher at a entry center for the Long Beach School district in Long Beach California starting in August of My goal for my future is to work within the Long Beach school district until retirement.
“You must be the change you wish to see in the world” Mahatma Gandhi This quote by Gandhi has always stuck with me. I think that for me it means that if I want to make a difference in the world I need to work at it. I can be the change I wish if I work at it long enough in the right way. For me that is education and specifically ELL education in the United States. Thank You.
