Do Now: Complete the muckraker graphic organizer question on Tarbell, and share response. What was Ida Tarbell’s agenda during the Progressive movement?

Muckraker In 1890, wrote the book “How the Other Half Lives”. Described living conditions as well as used photos to show living conditions in New York City tenement housing.

Today we are going to read an excerpt from Riis’s book “How the Other Half Lives” As you reading annotate the text, take notes on the gist of the text, key vocabulary words, as well as words of difficulty. After text is read we will discuss the gist of text as a class using discussion frames and questions. Complete text questions on document, peer assessment, share responses.
