By the end of class today, you should be able to: 1.Explain the concept of life congruence. 2.Understand the relationship of your faith, your purpose and how you live your life. 3.Examine the nature of moral à la carte in your own life. 4.Explain on a beginning level the process of listening to God. 2

Galatians 5:22-25 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self- control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

Galatians 6:7-8 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. People reap what they sow. Those who sow to please their sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; those who sow to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

Media: “Eric Liddell” Chariots of Fire Scenes 2. Remember the Sabbath Day to Keep it Holy 3. He Who Honors God

Discussion: 1. Liddell makes a couple of very important decisions in the movie. What are they and what do they say about him? 2. Liddell is motivated both from “inside” his soul and from “outside” by the Law of God. How is it that you think someone can be free to obey like that? 3. Have you ever made a decision to live out your faith before? Briefly describe the situation, how you felt as you went through it, and what you learned. 4. If you had to choose a life verse to describe Eric Liddell, what verse(s) would you choose and why? 5. In 1981 “Chariots of Fire” was nominated for seven Academy awards and won four, including Best Picture. Compare this with the Academy award winners in What might this communicate about our culture? 21
