INTRODUCE MANMATHA SARKER Head Teacher ULLABARI UNITED HIGH SCHOOL RAJOIR, MADARIPUR

LESSON PLAN Class – Seven Subject – English 2 nd paper Time – 50 minutes Date – 11/01/2016

TODAY’S TOPIC TENSE

LEARNING OUTCOMES By the end of the lesson the students will be able to- (a) define tense (b) classify tense (c) identify tenses

Tense comes from the Latin word “Tempus” means time. The tense of word shows the time of an action. There are three basic tense in English language. Present Past Future

Look and read the following sentences:- Ratan : Hey Ratna, how are you ? Ratna : I am fine. What about you ? Ratan : I am also fine. Here, are, am, about all are refer to the present time and hence indicate the present tense.

Ratan : Ratna, did you go to Boishakhi mela yesterday ? Ratna : No, I didn’t. Yesterday I went to market. Here, did, didn’t, yesterday, went all are refer to the past time and hence they are all past tense.

Ratna : Tomorrow I will go to mela. Ratan : I will also go tomorrow with my father. Ratna : Very good, tomorrow we will go together. Ratan : Ok,then see you tomorrow. Bye. Ratna : Bye, take care. Here, tomorrow and will both indicate to the near future time and hence they are the future tense.

Present tense The action that refers to present time is said to be present tense. It describes the simple action or condition that occurs in the present time. The simple present tense comes with the following time verbal. Everyday Always Once a week Often Usually Rarely Never Twice a year Every now and then

For example :- Everyday she plays with her friend. The sun rises in the east. Usually they come by bus. Note that simple present verb takes ‘s’ or ‘es’ at the end when it comes after He,She, It and Names of a person or thing.

Past tense A verb that denotes the completed action is said to be past tense. Generally ‘d’ or ‘ed’ is added to be root verb to form a past tense. For example : 1. I wrote a letter yesterday. 2. He came back home last year. 3. The fisherman caught fishes.

Future tense A verb that refers to the action that is going to happen later or in the near future is called simple future tense. For example : My cousin will come by an airplane. Mother will make a cup of tea.

Present Past Future Do did shall/will do Go went shall/will go Come came shall/will come Sit sat shall/will sit Eat ate shall/will eat The past tense is entirely different for all the words and the future tense is just by adding ‘shall/will’ before the present tense.

Group works : Indicate the tense of the verbs in the following : 1. The sun gives us light. 2. The river flows under the bridge. 3. I am hopping to get a holiday soon. 4. I had finished the work when he came. 5. He will be staying here till Sunday. 6. The police arrested the criminal.

EVALUATION Correct the following sentences : He make the basket. The sun will rises yesterday. Always spoke the truth. She will hates me. Do he work tomorrow ?

HOME WORKS You will read the classification of present tense.
