Haiku Haiku – a 3 line Japanese poem usually about nature. It contains 17 syllables – 5 in line 1, 7 in line 2, 5 in line 3

Quickwrite (p. 494) Pick a special day of the year. Write down what you might hear, see, taste, smell, or touch on that day. Try to find images that reveal the way you might feel at a particular moment on that special day.

Activity Write your own original haiku, cinquain, and twaiku.  Your haiku and twaiku must fit the pattern.  Use the handout for the twaiku  Your haiku should be about nature.  Your cinquain should fit the cinquain pattern.  You cinquain can be about any appropriate topic.
