Design of the Implementation and Deployment of the SRA Preparation of pilot common/joint activity GA Meeting – Palermo, Italy 23 May 2014 Ignacio Baanante Rafael de Andres Medina

REMINDER: J-AGE Description of Work Task 4.3: Implementation of a pilot joint activity (ISCIII) Task 4.4: Design of the joint supportive structure to achieve an operational JPI Work Programme (ISCIII) Task 4.5: Development of the administrative structure for the implementation of joint activities (ISCIII) Task 4.6: Design the first JPI work programme (ISCIII)

Next steps Task 4.3: Implementation of a pilot common/joint activity selected from the SRA prioritization (Task leader: ISCIII) Using the outcomes of the task 4.1 and task 4.2, a pilot common/ activity of the JPI will be implemented to get practical experience for the design of the work programme of the JPI. – M4.3 Pilot JPI common/joint activity launching (M20) – D4.4 Pilot common joint activity report (M27)

Next steps Task 4.4 : Design of the joint supportive structure to achieve an operational Work Programme of common/joint activities (Task Leader: ISCIII) Following the outcome of Task 4.1 and taking into account the need to operationalize the SRA prioritization (outcomes of Tasks 4.2), an analysis of different models of administrative structures for joint activities will be carried out. M4.4 Workshop on the future JPI joint operational supportive structure (M22) D4.3 Proposal for an administrative supportive structure and its sustainable cost model for the JPI joint activities (M22)

Next steps Task 4.5: Development of the administrative structure(s) and their funding for the implementation JPI common/joint activities (Task Leader: ISCIII) A Work Programme will be developed for the JPI (Task 4.6). In the work programme the chosen instruments, research priorities and implementation processes for joint activities will be described. Depending on the chosen instruments, this task will comprise the development of………………

Next steps M4.5 Workshop on the implementation administrative/legal framework and funding model(s) for future JPI common/joint activities – The basic framework for implementation (Voluntary Common Framework Conditions for Joint Programming) – The requirements and mechanisms for funding alignment (funding model) – The necessary documentation for the implementation of joint activity – The evaluation, selection and peer review procedures – The design of joint scientific follow-up, the common monitoring and auditing principles – The design of feedback analysis of joint activities – The compilation of relevant data for dissemination/ monitoring and auditing purposes D4.5 Proposal of the administrative implementation structure and their sustainable funding (M28)

Timeline Adoption of Work Programme MayJunJulAugSeptOctNovDecJanFeb D4.6 WP M4.6 Implementation WS M4.5 WS on operational supportive structure M4.4 D4.3 M4.3 Launching of pilot activity D4.4 D4.5 D4.3 Proposal for an administrative supportive structure and its sustainable cost model for joint activities D4.4 Pilot common joint activity report D4.5 Proposal of the administrative implementation structure of joint activities and their sustainable funding D4.6 Proposal of the first work programme for implementation of future and sustainable joint activities

Where are we now? There is a deliverable that gathers the outcomes of a survey and WS on possible instruments to be used for JPI implementation Report coming from the prioritization (form funding organisations perspective) of the SRA carried out by FORTE based a questionnaire and the Prioritization WS During last GA meeting outcomes of prioritization report were presented and ISCIII was asked to present information/ experiences on joint activities of other JPIs, such as general frame, national contributions

Decisions to be taken Pilot common/joint activity: – Research area – Activity Considerations: – Timeframe of the activity proposed (within J-AGE: 9 months left) – Resources needed for the chosen activity and resources available (J-AGE budget, secretarial services or other possibilities) – Feasibility for a good quality product – J-AGE II description in case it is approved

Possible options As “work and productivity” came out as the first priority (from the priority workshop) and it was decided to launch the fast track on that theme, we could consider the fast track as a pilot common/joint activity. – In parallel to this activity J-AGE continues with the planned activities to prepare the future operational structure and the preparation of the implementation (evaluation procedures, call documents, etc.) for the first Work Programme and for J-AGE II implementation (in case it is funded) Pilot common/joint activity is decided to be a proper joint call – Immediate action would be needed – Meeting of interested funding organisations, funding commitment – Description of scope of the call, call text, evaluation procedures, guidelines for applicants, proposal and evaluation form, timeline, online submission tool..

Many thanks!

REMINDER: J-AGE Description of Work Task 4.1: Benchmarking joint activities for possible instruments to be used for JPI implementation (ISCIII, TUBITAK, FAS) Task 4.2: Prioritizing the research themes in the SRA for joint initiatives from policy perspective (FAS, ESRC, ZonMw, THL, ISCIII and SEIDI/ MINECO) Task 4.3: Implementation of a pilot joint activity (ISCIII) Task 4.4: Design of the joint supportive structure to achieve an operational JPI Work Programme (ISCIII) Task 4.5: Development of the administrative structure and their funding for the implementation of joint activities (ISCIII) Task 4.6: Design the first JPI work programme (ISCIII)
