Spain 504,030 km² Spain is a country located in southwestern Europe on the Iberian Peninsula with an area of 504,030 km². Spain is a democracy organised in the form of a parliamentary government under a constitutional monarchy. In 2009 the population of Spain officially reached 46 million people.Spain Spanish is spoken all over the country and so is the only language with official status nationwide. But a number of regional languages have been declared co-official, along with Spanish, in the constituent communities. Spanish culture has its origins in the Iberian, Celtiberian, Latin, Visigothic, Roman Catholic, and Islamic cultures. Roman Catholicism has long been the main religion of Spain About 76%.

 Madrid  Madrid is the capital and largest city of Spain, seat of government, and residence of the Spanish monarch. While Madrid possesses a modern infrastructure, it has preserved the look and feel of many of its historic neighbourhoods and streets.  The population of the city is roughly 3.2 million. The entire population of the Madrid metropolitan area (urban area and suburbs) is calculated to be 5.84 million. The city spans a total of 698 km².  Its landmarks include the huge Royal Palace of Madrid; the Teatro Real (Royal theatre); the Buen Retiro park, founded in 1631; the imposing 19th-century National Library building (founded in 1712) containing some of Spain's historical archives; an archaeological museum; and three superb art museums: Prado Museum, which hosts one of the finest art collections in the world, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, a museum of modern art, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, housed in the renovated Villahermosa Palace.

Education State education  Schools State education in Spain is free and compulsory from the age of 6 to per cent Ministry of Education and Science  Over 90 per cent of children aged three to five attend nursery school and over 55 per cent of students remain in full-time education until they’re 18, around 25 per cent going on to vocational training and 30 per cent to university. State education is ultimately the responsibility of the Ministry of Education and Science although the 17 autonomous regions now have responsibility for their own education system (including higher education).  School levels in Spain :  Nursery or pre-school  Nursery or pre-school (the age of three or four) Compulsory education begins at six years of age in a primary school and lasts for six years. At the age of 12 pupils move on to secondary education for the next four years. When they’re 16, students are awarded a certificate and may attend a higher secondary school to study for their baccalaureate leading to university entrance. At 16, students may attend a vocational school providing specialised training for a specific career.

CURRICULUM  The primary curriculum includes Natural and Social Sciences, Spanish and an autonomous language (if applicable), Literature, Mathematics, Arts, Physical Education and a foreign language (usually English) Catholic religion is optional.  Compulsory secondary education provides pupils with more specialised training and prepares them for the baccalaureate or vocational training.  Compulsory subjects are Natural Sciences, Spanish language and literature, Geography and History, Mathematics, Physical Education and a foreign language (English).

SPANISH PRISONS  Spain has got 81 Penitenciary Centres.  Spanish Penitenciary System has prisons for men, women and Psychiatric Hospitals.  The total amount of inmates is men and 6159 women:  Prisoners on remand and sentenced.  The percentage is 191 inmates per inhabitants.

SPANISH PRISONS  Penitenciary System has got 3 grades:  First grade  First grade for the inadaptabled ones.  Second grade  Second grade for every inmate when they enter the prison.  Third grade  Third grade for those who have served 66%. They live in Open Regime.  There´s neither Death Penalty nor life imprisonment in Spain, the longest sentence is 30 years. Terrorists must serve the total, the rest may have permits and leave in 3rd grade.

EDUCATION IN SPANISH PRISONS  Every prison has got a school.  Each school is ruled by the Ministry of Education or the autonomous regions.  They offer Primary Education (students attend their lessons).  Secondary Education, Higher Studies and University is sometimes with tutors.  Registration is optional but attending the lessons is compulsory.
