Overview of workshop Other SE Funding Opportunities The Concept of Inspired Facilities Brief Programme overview Programme Criteria Application Form The Catalogue Questions and Answers Recap & Close

Other SE Funding Opportunities Iconic Facilities Sportivate Protecting Playing Fields Small Grants Sports Match

Inspired Facilities Consultation with over 750 clubs, local authorities and schools Ranked 10 facility development areas they would apply for Roof, showers, boilers, floodlights, court surfaces A catalogue lists a range of facility improvements with costs

It’s not just another funding programme! This is part of the countdown to Inspired Facilities and YOU are a very important part of creating an Olympic Legacy SE want to “touch and reach” as many communities across England to help connect them to 2012 and create a lasting legacy

Overview of the Programme £50 million lottery capital investment Organised into 5 funding rounds with up to £10 million being awarded per round Two rounds in 2012 and two rounds in 2013 Up to 70% of the funding available for community & voluntary sector projects (which includes parish and town councils) Up to 30% of the funding available for Local Authority and other statutory bodies such as schools and education establishments

Key Features - Funding Grants to community and voluntary sector projects including Parish & Town Councils will range from £20,000 to £50,000 Grants to local authorities range from £20,000 to £150,000 (£ for £ match funding – can include in-kind and cash contributions, other statutory bodies including schools, HE, FE) One application per organisation per round Funding available as a contribution to new build projects

Key Features - Catalogue Reduces the burden on the applicant and allows Sport England to do the work for you These are grouped together in four “packages” It helps you select a facility type and come up with a budget price as easily as possible Don’t have to use catalogue prices or suppliers Catalogue does not include VAT

Key Features - Packages Survey identified facility developments you want to undertake The catalogue covers over 80% of these Building Modernisation Indoor Sports surfaces Outdoor multi use games areas Modular changing Floodlights Equipment – not a package but lots of opportunities for you to get items in support of your project

Questions ?

Some points to note Catalogue doesn’t cover everything Alternatively get some help in putting a budget together from a suitably qualified building surveyor or quantity surveyor Examples include: - structural works - upgrade of existing electrical installations - improvements to swimming pools

Key questions What if I don’t want to use a pre-selected contractor? Our project (whole or part) isn’t in the catalogue – can we still apply? We’ve already got our costs, planning and design team – are we excluded? What about VAT?

Questions ?

Inspired Facilities Round 1 Results so far: 633 applications were received in Round 1 (£10m available) largest ever number received at Sport England 350 awards made Exceptionally positive feedback about the simplified application process and support for applicants An extra £7.5m of funding was allocated as a result of the high quality of applications received

Application process & support On-line application Web-based guidance Guidance tools (checklists, dummy application form, templates) funding line (8am-9pm Mon, 8am-6pm Tues-Thurs, 8am-5pm Fri)

In This Section What the programme will fund Criteria and Priorities How to Apply Timescales Future Rounds

What will the programme fund? Upgrades and improvements Works to bring non sports buildings into sporting use Indoor lighting and flooring Outdoor floodlights Sports equipment (non personal) Items that help reduce running costs – rain harvesting, solar panels, windmills Social areas and car parks – just make the case!

What SE can’t fund – key points Revenue items i.e. staffing, coaching, travel etc Small routine maintenance & repairs i.e. painting, broken windows Personal sports equipment Retrospective funding (reimbursement of costs incurred) Routine maintenance, travel and mini-buses

Inspired Facilities Criteria Need Tell us clearly what the need is for your project Community Involvement Projects will display the Inspire Logo – we want to know how you have involved your community Impact Tell us how your project will keep users coming or bring in new people Sustainability Tell us how your project will continue to deliver sport

SE will give priority to… Organisations that have not received a Sport England Lottery grant of over £10,000 since 1994 Projects that are the only public sports facility in the local community Projects that offer local opportunities to people who do not currently play sport
