Process and Status Input to draft questions Initial contacts Web search Telephone calls Follow up Telephone interview Further contacts  1 interview undertaken  0 interviews arranged  Many contacts to follow up Stratmos WP C-3 Interview progress Trelleborg

Trelleborg Port - Gateway between Scandinavia and Continental Europe ° Presentasjonstittel (Topp- og bunntekst) |

Interview: Trelleborg Port Authority Ro-Ro port open 24 hours 38 connections per day 3 big shipping lines TT Line (Travemünde, Rostock) Scandlines Hansa (Sassnitz, Rostock, Travemünde) Unity Line (Swinoujscie) All kinds of cargo. No bulk, mostly train or lorry Stratmos WP C-3 Interview progress Trelleborg

Logistic Centre with m2 for warehousing square meter for transhipment, storage and third party logistics ° Presentasjonstittel (Topp- og bunntekst) |

° Presentasjonstittel (Topp- og bunntekst) |

MoS application (1) Rationale for application: Decline in railway traffic last 10 years – want to improve intermodal traffic to port Plans to develop port with partners – MoS funding is a way of realising this with 20% investment from EU Process: At the outset (year 1 of 5 year process) Partners: Trelleborg Port (lead), Scandline AG, Sassnitz Port Assistance from consultants ° Presentasjonstittel (Topp- og bunntekst) |

MoS application (2) Expected outcomes: MoS route expected to increase tonnage transported by rail from 1.4 to 3 million tonnes What is required: Investment in rail tracks from berth to approx.1 km on land (Banverket or Trelleborg Port) Ferries must widen tracks on board, and need to be able to roll off and roll on at the same time Port will need new type of 'intermodal hub/combined terminal' with sufficient open space to lift lorries with big forklift reach stacks off the trains ° Presentasjonstittel (Topp- og bunntekst) |

Strengths Geographical location – Short sea leg to Germany (3hr 45min to Sassnitz) ‘Sleeping security lines' – enables lorry drivers to sleep the required 8 hours before/ after/ during sailing ° Presentasjonstittel (Topp- og bunntekst) |

Challenges Green Cargo AB and DB Schenker Rail have agreement for transport over Øresund Bridge Trelleborg port currently used as a 'back-up' route when there is a problem with Øresund bridge Choice for using SSS/ MoS route rather than road bridge in reality restricted Swedish ports owned by community and run by ‘political people’ - lack of understanding of issues Financial situation – cargo down 17% last year Stratmos WP C-3 Interview progress Trelleborg

Initiatives to address challenges Innovative and proactive – warehouse, space for offloading from trains, promoting port, conferences Currently in negotiations with Green Cargo AB and DB Schenker Rail about a two-way strategy over land/sea Green Cargo AB and DB Schenker Rail invited to be external partners in MoS application Reduced staff and negotiated with suppliers to reduce costs to avoid reduction in profit °Stratmos WP C-3 Interview progress Trelleborg

Way forward Shall we keep on chasing... Will further interviews provide valuable information? Where do ‘operators’ fit in – do we need to discuss how we define main actor groups? Port Authorities Shipping Lines Regional Authorities Firms (those using SSS/ MoS route) Stratmos WP C-3 Interview progress Trelleborg
