Introduction Open your presentation with a clear introduction Use a “hook” to get attention ◦Use an interesting statistic about advertising ◦Use the tag line or a catchy phrase from the advertisement ◦Define the word “advertisement” or “consumer” ◦Use a rhetorical question E.g. Who doesn’t love to buy new toys? ◦Use humor or sarcasm E.g. True or False? In America, he who dies with the most toys wins. State the main idea (what are you writing about?) State the name of the company or product in the advertisement that you are analyzing.

Analysis Conclusion Write a formal conclusion for the presentation Use a full-circle ending—end with the same hook you used in the opening. Based on your analysis, is the ad successful? Does it clearly describe the product, or is the ad misleading? Explain! Would you buy the product or recommend the product? Why or why not?

Walmart’s advertisement uses many persuasive techniques and creative elements to convince consumers to spend, spend, spend.

Analysis Rough Draft Make sure I read your rough draft (notebook) if you want a grade! Each answer should be clear and well- supported. Provide a logical explanation and specific examples. Note cards: ◦Use bullets—chunks of info-meaningful phrases ◦Highlight key words ◦Number your cards ◦Use only one side of a card ◦Rehearse your presentation ◦Be prepared to present on Monday
