2 World Bank  The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), known today asThe World Bank, has been established in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire (USA) in July 1944 with its mission to rebuild Europe after World War II.  France was the first Borrower (250 mil. USD) in  Many of developed nations who are now Donors, were previously Borrowers (Austria, Australia, Denmark, Japan, Italy, Slovenia, Czech Republic)

3 World Bank today  The World Bank is currently owned by 184 countries  The World Bank Group with the seat at Washington, D.C., consists of IBRD, IDA, IFC, MIGA a ICSID  The expression World Bank is commonly used for International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and International Association for Development (IDA).  These two banks provide loans and credits to public sector in developing countries in order to secure supplies of goods and consultant services

4 Borrowers Today  Clients of WB (Borrrowers) are developing countries with low and middle rate of GDP and poorest countries of the world  In fiscal year 2006, the World Bank has provided loans and credits in total amount of 23.6 billion USD to more than 100 Borrowers.  The largest borrowers in 2006 include Mexico, Brazil, Turkey, Pakistan, China, India, Argentina, Egypt, Vietnam, Tanzania
