PROJECT RECAP The motivation behind this project is: Allows me to demonstrate my skills to their full ability in a real-life business situation Understand my clientele a little more See the impacts a re-design could have on the business The Problems Navigating around website can be very confusing Too many links – could be simplified Some links not live Improve information architecture Design – low contrast between background and text (May be an issue for colour blindness) Table design very old fashion Usability ( both on client & users side) Images have not been optimised for the web
PERSONAS
CURRENT GOOGLE ANALYTICS
UNDERSTANDING FUNCTIONALITY Most users are only interested in the dairy – needs to be quick & easy Checking availability Checking weather Checking slack water times Directions/Parking height restrictions/Local parking to Marina In-depth plan of the day trip Few mobile devices are being used, therefore needs to be responsive Over night stay information/B&B’s/Where to get breakfast? Interaction with social networking sites (Content shareable) Available across browsers
WHAT THE CLIENT WANTS? Wants to be able to up-date site daily Wants reserved spaces to automatically up-date An online booking system Online deposit system Other pages for: Fishing, site seeing, ash scattering, commercial work, filming and surveys. Merchandise – shopping page
CHOOSING THE RIGHT CMS?
WORDPRESS? Most simple CMS for me grasp An open-source product always means tones of available tutorials, step by step guide..etc User-friendly dashboard Plugins for most functionality Able to create admin interface for Mike (Client)
WORDPRESS CONS? Core flexibility quite constrained Tackle this by modifying child theme with learned CSS skills Modify the theme functionality using learned PHP Security and performance concerns with plugins Tackle this by renaming already set-up WP folders rather than leaving them with generic names Make a habit of checking FTP for any unusual files that appear
PLUG-INS FOR BOOKING SYSTEM /
WORDPRESS E-COMMERCE PLUG-INS
PLUG-INS FOR PAYING DEPOSITS
WORDPRESS HOSTING REQUIREMENTS? PHP version or greater MySQL version 5.0 or greater
