Literature: Prose selection lines Topics: Druids and Boudica’s rebellion Authors: Julius Caesar/Tacitus and Tacitus Julius Caesar encountered the Druids during his conquest of Gaul from BC. They were priests recruited mainly from the nobility and they were the only men powerful enough to organise opposition to Roman rule.
Boudica’s rebellion Following the death of her husband, Prasutagus, and the treatment that followed, Boudica roused the Iceni and Trinobantes tribes to rebel against the Romans. They subsequently destroyed the cities of Colchester, London and St Albans, before being conquered eventually by the Romans in the “Battle of Watling Street.”
