Checkpoint 1.1 Offer ways of customizing the display of information  Students with vision impairments can use Zoom, an application that makes text larger. The text size can also be changed in other technology devices by changing the font size.  Closed caption applications help those who have an hearing impairment.  Changing background and text colors can help those with vision impairments see the text easier. Provide Multiple Means of Representation

Describe the specific example or resource selected (title given), the age group intended for, and the content area it covers AIM Explorer "The AIM Explorer is a free simulation that combines grade-leveled digital text with access features common to most text readers and other supported reading software. Magnification, custom text and background colors, text-to-speech (synthetic and human), text highlighting, and layout options are presented in a logical sequence to help struggling readers decide which of these supports might help them to access and understand text." Age Group: All ages Content Area: All content Cost: Free Technology Involved: Internet connection to download; once downloaded, application can be used with or without an Internet connection

Describe the example/resource explored explaining how it works According to National Center on Universal Design for Learning "The AIM Explorer is a free simulation that combines grade-leveled digital text with access features common to most text readers and other supported reading software”(NCUDL). The AIM Explorer allows students to magnify text, change background colors and create layouts that are more appealing and supports the learner using the same material the other students are.

Address each of the “Key Considerations” for the checkpoint. Key considerations How does this help learners meet the goal? The AIM Explorer helps learners meet the goals by providing them with the tools and material that doesn’t hinder learning. How does this account for the variability of all learners? This method can be applied to all learners. Can learners customize the display? Yes learners can customize the display to meet their needs.

Share an idea you have for how this resource might be used effectively during instruction or assessment opportunities in your current classroom or your future practice. This resource might be used effectively during instruction in my future classroom because it contains both text applications and reading applications that will help all students gather the information.
