BUILDING STRONG ® What is a DoD Mission-Sensitive Priority Bird Species? Those species (and their habitats) having the highest potential to impact the military mission should they become Federally listed. Ashy Storm Petrel Yellow Rail Greater Prairie Chicken Mountain Plover Golden-winged Warbler Swallow-tailed Kite

BUILDING STRONG ®

How Were These Species Selected? DoD Partners in Flight Steering Committee members each provided their “Top 10” species of concern Federally listed species were excluded All bird species on the USFWS 2010 Candidate Notice of Review list known to occur on DoD lands were included DoD representatives from all regions (Southeast, Northeast, Midwest, West, Alaska, and Hawaii), representing all military service branches, provided the initial input. Installation managers on Oah’u, Kauai, and Hawai’i were queried for Hawaiian priority species. Two year review and numerous iterations to develop final list American Bird Conservancy vetted final list

BUILDING STRONG ® What is the Utility of this List? Helps to prioritize monitoring programs Link Priority Species status to potential future mission impacts Provide support for National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents Guide the development of conservation measures to support Actions associated with: the MOU developed under Executive Order (Responsibilities of Federal Agencies To Protect Migratory Birds ) Final Migratory Bird (“Readiness”) Rule Basis to evaluate proposals for funding from the Legacy Resource Management Program
