Strategies for enhancing wheat production with special reference to management of Yellow Rust and Karnal bunt in Himachal Pradesh during Rabi Presentation by; Department of Agriculture, Himachal Pradesh

1. Phasing out of Susceptible Varieties to Yellow Rust: (i) Varieties already Phased Out: PBW-343, 373, 396, 502, 550 HS-240, 277, 295 Raj-3765, 3777 HPW 184, 251 DBW 17 (ii) Varieties Phased Out during : HPW-42, 89, WH-1021, HD-3043, HS-375, PBW-644 and VL-616 (iii)Varieties to be Phased Out in Future : VL- 829,892, HD-2967, DPW

Resistant Varieties to be Promoted: Low Hills (up to 1000 msl): HPW-147,155, 211,236, 349, DPW , HD-2967,3043,3059, 3086,DBW-71,88,90,WH-1080, 1105, VL-829,892, HS-542, PBW-644. Mid Hills ( msl): HPW-147, 155, 236, 249, 349, VL-829,892, 907, HS-507, HS-542 High Hills ( msl): HPW-155, 236 Very High Hills ( msl): VL 892, Him Pratham

 Surveillance will be conducted from 1 st December, 2015 to 31 st March, 2016  Surveillance will be made weekly in small districts, fortnightly in big districts  Joint Surveillance team comprising ATMA, KVK’s and Department already constituted  Mobile Apps 2. Surveillance and Monitoring:  250 farmer training programme’s covering 25,000 farmers planned to create awareness  Three lacs card and Folders on Yellow Rust and Karnal bunt management will be distributed to the farmers  Advisories to the farmers through Daily News Papers/ AIR & DD etc.  Advisories through electronic media 3. 4. 100% Seed Treatment and Timely Arrangements of Fungicides:  Timely availability of fungicide like Propiconazole 25% EC at Sale Center/Block/District level.  5164 Ltr.(Propiconazole 25% EC ) Fungicides already arranged.  100% wheat seed treatment to be ensured for which campaign has been launched.

5. Demonstrations will be laid in farmers field on resistant varieties, under NFSM. 5,290 ha. area will be covered under demonstration

Strategies for Increasing Wheat Production:  Yellow Rust resistant varieties to be promoted  100% seed treatment  Timely sowing- sufficient moisture  Soil test based fertilizer and micronutrient application  Cluster demonstration under N.F.S.M.  Regular monitoring of yellow rust on weekly / fortnightly basis  Proper Monitoring of summer crop in high hills  Timely supply and application of fungicide (Propiconazole 25%EC)
