Welcome to A2 Level Psychology

Anonymous Questionnaire 1.What did you find helped you the most in terms of learning during the AS course? 2.What did you find the most difficult during the course? 3.Which resources were of little help to you? (did not help you learn as much as others?) 4.What are you expecting from the A2 course? 5.What are your expectations from me?

AS Results Well done!

Unit 1 - Approaches Vast majority of students got between 8 and 11 marks Action plan for all is the following:- to aim to move from ‘formulaic’ answers which receive marks in the reasonable/good bands, to develop your answers to access marks in the top band At A2 this will mean that your evaluation skills are clear, accurate and in depth, as well as being relevant to the topic you are discussing

Improve from good to outstanding! By working to improve your understanding of psychological concepts, this should then dramatically improve your evaluation This will be difficult at first but practice makes perfect! You will all be pushed to work to an extremely high standard- if at any point you find yourself struggling speak to me or attend subject support! Being lost in a subject decreases your motivation and your chances of success!

Enhanced Results Analysis

Unit 1- Approaches This unit is important as an understanding of the approaches is a crucial part of the applied topics in unit 4 Look at your marks and see if there were any weak areas Question 2 (therapies) will be something that is revisited in psychopathologies Questions 3-5 are evaluative and indicate maybe an area to improve in A2

Unit 2- Core Studies and Research Methods Section A- Questions 1 to 3 – factual information (not as important for A2 – most of you are very good at this) Section B- Questions 4 to 6 – evaluation skills (these skills are very important for A2 throughout Units 3 and 4 ) Section C- Question 7 or 8 – research methods (this is important for A2 Unit 3)

Action Plan If you were in the lower bands in Questions 4-6 (under 8 marks) then evaluation is a weak point that needs to improve If you achieved lower marks in research methods (under 16 marks), then you will need to improve this at A2

UMS To achieve an A* - you will need to have an A grade at A level but you need 90% and over in Unit 3 and Unit 4 Unit 3 – 80 UMS 72 A* 48 C 64 A 40 D 56 B 32 E

Unit 4 – 120 UMS A* A - 96 B - 84 C - 72 D - 60 E - 48

Improving Grades D grade at AS = 102 UMS B grades at A2 = 142 UMS Total UMS = 244 = C grade 160 = E 200 = D 240 = C 280 = B 320 = A

Expectations for A2 Level 1.Regular attendance, if not, you will not achieve your target grade! (if you are ill you must me to send you the resources used in the lesson) 2.Complete all assessments, if not, you will not know how well you have improved/what you need to do to improve 3.No phones out in class 4.If the feedback from me does not help, come to subject support! 5.New research, read around your topics to help get the top band 6.Revise for class assessments and mock exams to improve your skills

Other Important Stuff 1.Shape up! 2.Learning ladder 3.Moodle 4.Twitter 5.Subject support 6.Assessments 7.MTG - +1 at A2 Level
