Brainstorming OCTOBER 28, 2013 I’m with my mom, writing down categories of things I might want to invent. These invention categories are: ♪ Dogs ♪ Chores ♪ Games ♪ Exercise ♪ Apps ♪ Organizer (like a Binder Reminder) ♪ Books ♪ Music I have an idea of a dog palace. It’s in a suitcase and when you open it, a little dog house pops out. NOVEMBER 1, 2013 I thought about an app that would help arrange things and make things easier.

NOVEMBER 3, 2013 I thought of another app that can help arrange and track books you are reading. There is a part that you can type in the book you’re reading and if someone who also has this app is reading the same book, it will set up a book club, and you can type what you thought about the story. NOVEMBER 7, 2013 I thought of a belt that would play music. There is a place that you put your device on the belt and plug it into a small speaker. I like this idea because you can wear your favorite music and bring it with you wherever you go. I submitted my Intent to Invent a musical belt (attached). NOVEMBER 10, 2013 I just thought about a musical hula hoop. You plug in your phone and it starts to play with the hoop starts to twirl.

NOVEMBER 12, 2013 What is your invention? My invention is a belt that can play music from your iPod or iPhone. Who is this for? This can be used by anyone. How does it work? You download music from your computer to the device, and attach the device to the belt. You can use earbuds or plug the device into a speaker. Planning

NOVEMBER 15, 2013 My mom helped me look up how many people download music. The IFPI Digital Music Report in 2013 says that downloads were up 12% in 2012 to 4.3 billion. 62% of internet users download music. So it looks like people love their music downloads. Researching

NOVEMBER 15, 2013 We used the internet to see if my invention already exists. We found out that there is a belt that pregnant ladies can use to play music to their unborn babies. The product is called the “Lullabelly Prenatal Music Belt.” It was invented by Researching Adrianne Godart in Miami, FL in We found this belt on Amazon.com and it costs $55. We did not find any other music belt. The belt I want to invent would be fashionable and fun for everyone to use. I interviewed my dad, Richard. He said my idea was “very cool and convenient.” My mom, Shelley, thought it was a fun idea and said I should make it “flexible enough to go on any belt.”

NOVEMBER 23, 2013 Me and my mom went to Radio Shack, Best Buy and Justice with my invention idea to see if we could find a musical belt. We went to Radio Shack first. They told us that they did not think a musical belt had been invented yet. Next we went to Justice for Girls because they usually have cool things you can wear. The salesperson said she had never seen anything like my musical belt. While we were there, we bought a really cute belt that might work for my invention. The person who worked at Best Buy said the same thing. But he said he liked my idea so Researching much that he wanted to steal it and invent it himself. My mom didn’t think it was very nice to try to steal a little girl’s idea.

DECEMBER 7, 2013 I surveyed four people to see if they thought my idea was a good one and if they would buy it. I am going to call it “Music On-the-Go!”. I talked with people of different ages. They all really liked my idea and said they would use it. Here is what else they said: Researching Judi Durkin – Age 73 She would pay $49. She said she liked the belt because you can use it for anything. Shelley Mager – Age 51 She would pay $45. She suggested that I use a video to demonstrate my product. Cameron Durkin – Age 16 He would pay $15 to $20. He suggested that I make the belt in different colors. Gillian Mager – Age 14 She would pay $30 (or $25). She suggested that I add headphones.

DECEMBER 20-30, 2013 My mom and dad helped me decide what materials I would need to build my Music On- the-Go! musical belt. I already had the belt. Below is a list of materials for my Music On-the-Go! model. DECEMBER 31, 2013 Me, my dad and grandpa went to Best Buy and Radio Shack and found a good miniature speaker at Best Buy. My mom took me to Joann’s Fabric to buy the materials for the pouch that will hold the device and the speaker. Building a Model

JANUARY 1-2, 2014 I started to make the pouch with my mom. We used a scarf to decide how the pouch would work and attach to the belt. Then we took measurements of the speaker and device together. We marked our felt and I cut out the pieces. While my mom did the most of the sewing, I got to try a sewing machine for the first time. After the pouch was made, I got to decorate it.

JANUARY 4, 2014 Today me and my mom are working on the backboard for my invention, and all the materials that explain what we did. I wrote everything out, and mom is helping me make it look good and edit it.
