Creating User Interfaces
Presentation transcript:

Creating User Interfaces User Observation assignment. Classwork / Homework: get started.

User observation study Qualitative, not quantitative – Talk some about panels, sampling next class Pick one or two web sites or applications. Decide on tasks to evaluate usability. Identify class or classes of users. – Example: shoppers, novice and experienced Recruit 2-3 of each class (total 4-6) Observe – Don't let them flounder, but keep track of any rescues. Ask subjects afterwards for their opinion on usability.

Alternative Open-ended study OR Make hypothesis and design way to test it. – Example: people will have problems with X but not Y.

Possible Post-survey questions What did you like? What would you change? How would you describe this to others? Would you use this again, that is, for your own use? ???

Assignment Form teams of 2-4. – You decide if you need to do sessions together or individually or in groups… – From more, more is expected. Post proposal with team members and site/app. Do observations Prepare report. – Combine, synthesize, findings. Prepare presentation and 1-pager. Due in two weeks.

You decide … what to investigate. “major on the majors” But/and You may decide to investigate re-starting, signing off, what if your subject (give them a name) makes a mistake, forgets something critical, ???

Aside The only way I know to stop nytvr is to turn the phone off.

Class time Talk, mingle, and form groups. Start to identify site and app. Make a post of the proposal to moodle. ?
