Learning Believing Achieving Creativity Courage Curiosity To be successful this lesson you will need to show: CREATIVITY COURAGE CURIOSITY Application of Number – Level 2 Healthy Living

Measure your height in metres and choose one of the students that is closest to your height and weight from the list Task 1

Calculate your BMI Student Number Height Weight BMI Record these results in to a table Check the accuracy of your BMI result by calculating in imperial and compare

Where are you within the BMI table? BMIWeight Status Below 20underweight 20.0 – 24.9Normal 25.0 – 29.9Overweight 30.0 and AboveObese

Compare your results to the rest of the class and put them into a table. What % of students are :- a) underweight b) a healthy weight c) overweight d) obese Example 7 / 30 = 7 ÷ x 100 = 23.3% (1dp) Check that they add up to 100% Class comparison using percentages

Analyse the results

Show your results in a pie chart and explain your findings Pie Chart

Total3030 Drawing Pie Charts Under weight Healthy weight Over weight Obese BMI Status Underweight 7 / 30 x 360 = 84 Healthy weight 17 / 30 x 360 = 204 Over weight 2 / 30 x 360 = 24 Obese 4 / 30 x 360 = 48 Total = 360

Analyse the results

Calculate the mean, median and range BMI for boys and girls, and then compare. Which gender has the highest mean average? Where do you “lie” in comparison with your peers? How do your findings compare to the national mean average? (next slide) Analyse the results What do the results tell you about your general state of health and why? Averages
