Welcome Analyzing Kendall's “Framing Class, Vicarious Living, and Conspicuous Consumption.” Presentation By: Amanda Yousif professor Lemaster RWS May 2012

About the author  Who is Diana Kendall?  Is a professor for sociology at Baylor University.  Kendall's interests is to educate readers about social inequalities of race, class and gender.  Kendall have published multiple books.

“the media do not simply mirror society; rather, they help to shape it and to create cultural perceptions”(331).

Agree or disagree with Kendall’s position.

“media socialize us to believe that people in the upper classes are better than…those who are less fortunate”(332).

“some media framers show the rich and famous in a negative manner, they still glorify the material possessions and lifstyles of the upper classes”(333).

“The profits of television networks and stations come from selling advertising, not from producing programs that are accurate reflections of social life”(342).
