PASSAGES AND CONNECTIONS Sarah Smith

"MY NAME IS CHRISTOPHER JOHN FRANCIS BOONE. I KNOW ALL THE COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD AND THEIR CAPITAL CITIES AND EVERY PRIME NUMBER UP TO 7,057." This tells you about the main character, how smart he is, and how he's good at math. It really tells you about how the character is intelligent.

"IT WAS 7 MINUTES AFTER MIDNIGHT. THE DOG WAS LYING ON THE GRASS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LAWN IN FRONT OF MRS SHEAR'S HOUSE. IT'S EYES WERE CLOSED. IT LOOKED AS IF IT WAS RUNNING ON ITS SIDE, THE WAY DOGS RUN WHEN THEY THINK THEY ARE CHASING A CAT IN A DREAM. BUT THE DOG WAS NOT RUNNING OR ASLEEP. THE DOG WAS DEAD." This tells you about the main problem in the book. This is the problem in which caused all the other issues in the story so it's very important in the book.

"THIS IS A MURDER MYSTERY NOVEL. SIOBHAN SAID THAT I SHOULD WRITE SOMETHING I WOULD WANT TO READ MYSELF. MOSTLY I READ BOOKS ABOUT SCIENCE AND MATHS. I DO NOT LIKE PROPER NOVELS." This tells you about the feeling/theme/mood of the story and the perspective of the book. As well as more about the main character.

CONNECTIONS: "I DID IT FOR YOUR OWN GOOD, CHRISTOPHER. HONESTLY I DID. I NEVER MEANT TO LIE. I JUST THOUGHT… I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS BETTER IF YOU DIDN'T KNOW… THAT… THAT… I DIDN'T MEAN TO… I WAS GOING TO SHOW YOU WHEN YOU WERE OLDER. -Sometimes there are things that are best kept a secret. In this case his dad didn't tell him something important but it was only for his own good. It happens a lot in real life to everyone when people sometimes have to lie about something.

"AND I STARTED FEELING A PAIN IN MY CHEST LIKE I DID ON THE UNDERGROUND BECAUSE I THOUGHT I WASN'T GOING TO BE ABLE TO GO BACK TO SWINDON AND TAKE MY A LEVEL." -He's upset that he thinks he might not be able to do what he loves doing which is math. It happens to everyone when they're upset/scared that they can't do something that they love. Example: When I get injured I'm always really upset that I won't be able to dance for a while.

CONCLUSION 1. We thought the book overall was weird and all over the place, so it was hard to know what was going on. 2. What we liked about the book was it was different then what we would normally choose to read. 3. We would probably not read another book by the same author because it was weird and really different. 4. We think that if you are looking for something different than what book you would normally read than you might enjoy it.

WRITERS STYLE "Prime numbers are what is left when you have taken all the patterns away. I think prime numbers are like life. They are very logical but you could never work out the rules, even if you spent all your time thinking about them." -compare things -off topic -weird, different "It was 1:12 am when father arrived at the police station. I did not see him until 1:28 am but I knew he was there because I could hear him." -Pays attention to details -Specific
