Who We Are SEKPA is a Registered Charity formed in 1980 to help Kidney Patients in East and West Sussex, from Littlehampton to Rye on the South Coast, to Horsham and East Grinstead inland. Patients are treated at the Sussex Kidney Unit of the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton and at its satellite Dialysis Units at Bexhill, Worthing and Crawley. Some patients can also carry out treatment at home. The current Committee of Trustees is made up of volunteer Kidney Patients and their carers and is supported by Doctors and Nursing Staff at all locations.

What We Do Our objectives are: to support kidney patients and their families in all possible ways to provide an emergency Welfare Service to provide information, mainly through our quarterly magazine SEKPA News To provide support to the Sussex Kidney Unit and the Satellite units in the provision of services to kidney patients. To raise money in support of the above. Over the Years SEKPA have raised substantial amounts for new equipment, including dialysis machines reverse osmosis machines dialysis chairs and beds various ancillary equipment We also provide various Welfare Grants for Renal patients

Where Does The Money Come From? All our money is currently raised though donations or through fund raising activities, such as: sponsored events the annual raffle supermarket and street collections stalls at local fairs and carnivals sale of Christmas and greetings cards the generosity of SEKPA members and the general public with donations and legacies

News & Communications Our magazine – “SEKPA News” 4 times a year, giving local kidney patients news, information and diary dates of meetings, social and fund raising events. Welfare support is available for help towards funding medical or non-medical items, such as CAPD bag warmers, garden sheds for storing dialysis equipment, and assistance with transport costs. Renal Patients’ User Group Patients and Carers are invited to become members of this Group, which holds bi-monthly meetings in the Seminar Room, level 9 of the Sussex Kidney Unit. The Renal Patients User Group (RPUG) is an associated Group of SEKPA, which provides a means of communication between patients and staff. The Group is patient led, and is supported by staff. The purpose of this Group is to develop a forum through which patients/carers can express their views on the Renal Services in Brighton and at associated Satellite Units. The Group looks at the clinical quality and the humanity of care, the environment and organisation of care and access issues. It is a means of communication between SEKPA, the Renal Service Users and the Renal Service Providers, informing patients about treatments and services, enabling patients to express their comments. Copies of the minutes of the meetings can be found on the notice boards in the Sussex Kidney Unit and updates of the Group’s activities are published in the ‘SEKPA News’ magazines. If you would like more information about this Group, please contact Mr. Allan Jones – telephone no
