Researching Designs-Day 1 Steve Miller Engineering

Do Now: 5 minutes-Prepare to Pair and Share then Share Out! Close your eyes and think of a problem. Create a rough sketch of a solution to that problem. Explain that it is just a rough sketch that does not have to be perfect. Prepare to Share Out your results with the class

Objectives: SWBAT understand basic ideas of engineering research SWBAT understand why engineers sketch first and build last SWBAT list and analyze the four basic steps of the sketching process SWBAT know and apply three forms of digital media used for research.

The World Of 3D Printing….from Idea to Prototype

5 Minute Vocabulary Game….See What You Know….Do the Work…I’ll keep your highest score…yes…I CAN view your scores!

Rough Sketching For Engineers

You Do: Team Reading- Engineering Fundamentals textbook pgs Prepare Cornell Notes for each page of the reading in your Engineer’s Notebook- Quick Test on Wednesday!!! Miller Does: PowerPoint Chapter 4 (slides 1-16). 12 MINUTES Take good notes….this will be part of your test on Wednesday too! Definitions of Key Vocabulary Terms 1-5 Write them in complete sentences in your Engineer’s Notebook…you must know them for Wednesday’s test Complete Activity 4-1 in the Engineering Fundamentals Workbook-Sketching (pg. 53) INDIVIDUAL Assignment-I will come around and check your next class….have it completed. If workbook assignment is not complete THEN HW.

SUMMING UP AND CLOSING THIS LESSON Engineers translate ideas to paper through sketching! Engineers convey ideas to other engineers by sketching and drawings to save time There are four steps to rough sketching….know them
