The monarchy was recently abolished, and Spain was declared a public. Catalonia and Basque wanted independence from Spain. The depression hit Spain hard Roman Catholic Church was hostile to the Republic and the Republic was hostile towards the Church.

Loyalist vs. the Fascist. The nationalist received support from Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany. Nationalist had a strength of 600,000, 600 aircraft, and 290 batteries. Spanish Republic had a strength of 450,000, 350 aircraft, and 200 battery. There were 500,000 casualties and losses.

Volunteers from the United States who fought for the Spanish Republic. Present at the battles of Brunete, Zaragoza, Belchite, Teruel, and Ebro River. After the war they were reviewed as supporters of the Soviet Union

Nationalist defeated the Spanish Republic. The Spanish Republic was demolished and the Spanish State was formed.
