What is the Early Years Foundation Stage? What is the Early Years Foundation Stage? *It is the stage that your child will be in if they attend a setting between birth and the age of five. *During your child’s first year at school they will be in the Early Years Foundation Stage class, also known as the Early Years or Reception. *The EYFS Curriculum is based on the recognition that children learn best through play and active learning and is divided in to seven areas, 3 ‘Prime Areas’ and 4 ‘Specific Areas.’

3 Prime Areas Personal, Social and Emotional Development Making relationships Self-confidence and self-awareness Managing feelings and behaviour Physical Development Moving and handling Health and self-care Communication and Language Listening and attention Understanding Speaking These are fundamental and all work together to support development in all other areas.

Characteristics of Effective Learning This covers the ways in which your child learns.
