Word processing is the software package that enables you to create,edit, print and save documents for future retrieval reference. creating a document involves typing by using a keyboard and saving it. editing the document involves correcting the spelling mistakes, if any, deleting or moving word sentences or paragraph. Some of the features of MS word are: 1. Using word you can create the document and edit them later as and when required, by adding more text, modifying the existing text, deleting/moving some part of it. 2. Changing the size of the margin can reformate complete document or the part of the text

3. font size and type of font can also be changed, page number and header and footer can be include. 4. spelling can be checked and correction can be automatically in the entire document. 5. tables can be made and included in the text. 6. word can be allow the user to mix the graphical picture with the text.it can be either be created in word itself or can be imported form outside like clip art gallery. 7. word also provide mail merge facility. 8. word has the facility of macros. Macros can be either attached to some function/special keys or to a tool bar or to a menu. 9. it also provide online help of any option. 10. Microsoft word offer a very easy and flexible environment to work.

There are two methods to start MS word. Method 1 1. Take the mouse pointer to start button on the task bar. Click the left mouse button. 2. Move the pointer to programs. You will notice another menu coming up to the right. 3. In that menu identify where Microsoft word is placed. Move the cursor horizontally to come out of the programs. 4. Move into the rectangular area meant for the MS word. Click the left mouse button there. The computer will start MS-word.

Method 2 double click on the Microsoft word icon on the desktop.

(A) Menu bar: the word menu is displayed at the top of the screen. The main menu further display a sub menu. Some of the option are highlighted option and some of the option are appear as faded.at any time only highlighted options are executed, faded options are not applicable. The menu bar is look like:

(B) Tool bar: (B) Tool bar: word has number of tool bars that help you perform task faster and with great ease. Toolbar provides shortcuts to menu command. Tool bar is just located just below the menu bar. Two of most commonly tool bar are the formatting tool bar and standard tool bar. These two tool bar are displayed just below the title bar. (C) Drawing tool bar: (C) Drawing tool bar: the drawing tool bar on the top of word contain drawing and text tools for creating graphics.

(D) Ruler bar: (D) Ruler bar: the ruler bar allows you to format the vertical alignment of text in a document. To display the ruler: 1. click view on the menu bar. 2.the option ruler should have a check mark next to it. If it has a check mark next to it, press Esc to close the menu. (E) Status bar: (E) Status bar: the status bar displays information about the currently active document. This include the page number that you are working, the column and line number of the cursor position and so on. status bar

Main menu options: Main menu options: Microsoft word window contains 8 menu. Each of these menu contains the several command of word. : 1.File: 1.File:y ou can perform file management operation by using these option such as saving, opening, closing, saving, printing etc.

2. Home: 2. Home: using this option you can perform various function such as formatting, paste, size change.it displays the following sub menus. 3. Insert: 3. Insert: using this menu you can insert various object such as page number, table, pictures, header, footnotes. It displays the following sub menus.

4. Page layout : 4. Page layout : using this menu deals with the setting of page, you can change the color, style, size, spacing of the page. It displays the following sub menus. 5. References: 5. References: using this menu you update table of content, update table, styles,insert caption. It displays the following sub menus.

6.Mailing : 6.Mailing : using this menu you can create envelope, labels, mail merge. It displays the following sub menus 7.Review : 7.Review : using this menu you can create spelling and grammar check, research, word count. It displays the following sub menus

8. View : 8. View : using this menu you can make changes on print layout, web layout, full screen reading, macros etc. It displays the following sub menus.

Formatting in MS WORD Formatting in MS WORD MS word allows you to apply different formats to different part of the document.we can apply different setting to each paragraph of our document, such that each of them appears in different color, font, size, character spacing etc. formatting referee to changing appearance of the document. It can be any character, word, paragraph and page of the document.

4) from the above box you can click on the font face which you want to apply. 5) font style, it can be bold, italic or regular. 6)you can choose the size of the text. 7)font color, underline style, caps can be changed as per requirement. 8)in advance you can select character spacing, positioning etc. 9)after selecting all the potion you require click ok. 10) all the formatting completed, if you want to change again than same you can change it.
