Title IX of the Education Act of 1972
Prohibits sex discrimination in most school activities including curriculum, faculty hiring and student athletic programs. School programs must provide equal opportunity to effectively accommodate the interests and abilities of both sexes. It is enforced by the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) of the U.S. Dept. of Education.
