Department of Probation and Parole Finds its origin in its 60's were it had strong influences from the social work profession For an extensive period of time the Department was part of the Department of Correctional Services Since 2012 it became an separate Directorate with its own vision and mission statement Regulated by Probation Act and the Restorative Justice Act

Units within the Department Probation Unit Parole Unit Victim Support Unit Psychology Unit The team is comprised of 3 senior probation officers, 20 probation officers, a victim liaison officer and 2 psychologists working under the Director of DPP

Roles and Responsibility of the DPP  Clients in the community Supervision and treatment of probationers and parolees Report e.g. Pre-sentencing reports Victims of crime – reports in relation to parole applications and referral for psychotherapy  Clients in correctional facility Supervision – involves liaison with other professionals in many aspects contact with drug rehab agencies Reports mainly in relation to parole reports

Statistics of Drug Use of Offenders Under Supervision In 2013 out of 950 offenders 356 were using drugs this equates to about a 1/3 of all the clients supervised with heroin being the drug of choice for 173 offenders, followed by cannabis and then cocaine. No statistics are kept for synthetic drug use In 2014 the DPP had a client list of 1000
