The Vine Food Bank Celebration 19 th December 2013 Together we made a difference!!

Learning in Year 2 This term Year 2 have been learning about the community. Here are some photos of what we have been up to. Smoothies Blackberry picking Map reading around Cambourne Shopping at Morrisons

Boxes for Katj The book was the starting point for involvement in collecting for the Food Bank here in Cambourne. The book is based on events that really happened. It is set in Holland after World War II. It tells the story of people reaching out to those in need at a time when food and essential items were sparse.

A parcel from America arrived for Katje. It was a pair of socks and some soap.

Postman Kleinhoonte brought an even bigger box from America! Enough food for all the family to have a good meal.

In the winter the village people worried they would not have enough to eat.

When everybody had given up hope, lots of parcels arrived. Inside there were cartons, bags and cans of food!!!! At the bottom of a box was a letter.

All winter long the boxes kept coming and the people stayed well fed.

So Year 2 started collecting food items from all the classrooms.

We had to use our numeracy skills as everything had to be sorted!

Every child in Year 2 helped. When Emma George came in Oliver was busy counting up the total amounts for each food type.

The Year 2 Whoops a Daisy Angel play raised £200 We bought more food!!!! Thank you

Thank you Morrisons for your support ! Here is the story of our shopping trip

First we needed to get a trolley!

READY,STEADY, SHOP!!!!!

Miss Hulbert is very particular, she just needed to check the list one last time!!

Who would have thought that shopping could be so much fun!!!

We waited patiently whilst the food was taken out of the trolleys.

All the food items were packed carefully in to bags.

Other shoppers were very nosey about what we were doing. They were all amazed when we told them it was for the Food Bank in Cambourne.

We made it back to school, luckily we didn’t have to carry the bags!!! Thank you Mrs Day and Mrs Kensington.

So we present to South Cambs District Council ……… 2000 food items for the Food Bank From all the pupils, parents, carers and staff at The Vine and of course, Morrisons supermarket.
