CONFLICT NOTES Conflict: The main problem in a story Internal Conflict – a struggle that takes place in a character’s mind (person vs. self). Ex: You know there is a test tomorrow. Should you go to the movies with friends or take the time to study for your test?? External Conflict – a struggle between a character and an outside force (person vs. world, person vs. person, etc.). Ex: Woody and Buzz Lightyear do not get along at the beginning of Toy Story and attempt to sabotage one another.

5 TYPES OF CONFLICT 1.Man vs. Self: (Internal conflict) This conflict occurs when a character has a tough decision to make or struggles with his/her thoughts and ideas. 2.Man vs. Man: (External conflict) This conflict occurs when a character has an argument, disagreement, or fight with another character. 3.Man vs. Nature (External conflict) This conflict occurs when a character battles a force of nature (earthquakes, hurricanes, animals, etc.) 4.Man vs. Society (External conflict) This conflict occurs when a character disagrees with the laws or beliefs of a society. 5.Man vs. Technology (External conflict) This conflict occurs between a character and technology such as machines, robots, etc.
