The Archives

Information on the Archives The Archives collects significant historical information from the surrounding South Georgia area. They collect information on the development of Valdosta State University from when it was Georgia South Womens College. They collect and preserve and provide access to historical records. They are located in Odum Library

More Information

Friends Getting Involved This is Diani and Alyson at the archives. We had to wait for the person to tell us what we had to do. They were scrap booking births, engagements, marriages, and deaths.

More Friends This is my friend Elaine. She came with me to help. She got to look at the micro film and check to see if their were any births or deaths on certain days.

My Involvement This is me scrap booking. I had to write the: title of the scrap book. article title. News paper title. date of the article. Scrap book page. People in the article. Themes in the article. A short summary.

More Involvement This is me sitting at the computer keying in information. The information that was being copied onto paper the first time I went was being entered into the computer the other times I went.

What I Thought! The scrap book project I was working on dealt with papers from 1946 to It was interesting to see what people in the archives do. I enjoyed helping even though it was boring at times. Writing from the article was much more interesting because I had the chance to see what the article was really saying. I didn’t like entering the information into the computer as much because it put more distance between me and the actual information. I typed in what someone else had read.
