Endangered Species By: Jenna Warner and Christina Savage

What are endangered species? Species at risk of extinction because of human activity, changes in climate, or changes in predator-prey ratios.

What are some causes? Poaching Global Warming Habitat loss Disease Pollution

What are some of the most endangered species? Great Panda Bear The Gorilla Tigers Certain Shark Species Corals

What are some of the most endangered species? Marine Turtles Threatened by : -fisheries impacts -coastal development -direct take of turtles and eggs -pollution -global warming Prevented by: protecting coastal beaches used as nesting sanctuaries laws protecting sea turtles from harmful fishing practices having hotel owners keep their lights dim so they do not interrupt the turtle’s nesting seasons.

Polar Bears Threatened by : -global warming** -oil development** -poaching -food shortage -pollution Prevented by : -laws protecting polar bears from being harassed, injured or killed -treaties protecting polar bear ecosystems -organizations raising money- Polar Bear Plunge

Endangered Species Act Protects plant and animal species that are at risk of becoming extinct. Protection includes: –Restriction on hunting –Restriction on transporting and trading –Develop recovery plans for Endangered and Threatened Species

Endangerment Prevention Money Donations Protection Laws Endanger Species Awareness Going green, recycling, conserving energy, and protecting the environment!!!!!!!!!!

What is poaching and why does it occur? Poaching- Any wildlife that is illegally being killed or taken from people of the state or province. Poaching occurs for various reasons: 1.Animal Trade 2.Food 3.Medicine 4.Jewelry 5.Fur Clothing

What is being done to stop poaching? Stopping Poaching! Poaching laws are in place to minimize the illegal activity of poaching. Setting up Poachers to get caught Collecting all information possible if poaching is seen going on: Names Physical descriptions/Location Vehicle descriptions License plate numbers
