The Universal Need for Housing Chapter 1, part 1 Homes and Interiors

Objectives 1.Define housing and briefly describe how it has evolved. 2.Analyze the basic physical and psychological needs that housing satisfies.

Housing Housing – is any structure built for people to live in. Three Basic Types of Housing: 1. Natural Shelters – caves 2. Portable Shelters - nomads 3. Permanent Shelters – good soil and water supply

Housing Archaeologists - scientists who study history through the relics and remains of old civilizations. Nomads – people who wander from place to place in search for food for their grazing herds.

Comfortable Shelters 1300s-1600s Renaissance – Italy –Brighter –Better ventilated –More sanitary –More comfortable

Housing to Fit Human Needs Housing is designed to fulfill both physical and psychological needs.
