About the Author Since 1991, Suzanne Collins has been involved with many children TV shows such as Little Bear, Oswald, and Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! She was born August 10, 1962.She was the daughter of an Air Force officer, so she traveled a lot. She spent most of her life in eastern US. She attended Alabama School of Fine Arts. She graduated from Indiana University with a double major in Drama and Telecommunications.
The Beginning Sixteen- year- old, Katniss Everdeen, and her twelve year old sister, Primrose Everdeen, are about to attend the annual Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is where they choose one girl and one boy between the ages of 12 and 18, to fight for their lives on live TV. Every year you have to put your name in once, and this is Prim’s first year so she won’t get picked, but that’s what Katniss thinks. When Effie Trinket pulls out the names for the girls, it’s Prim. Katniss and Prim couldn’t believe it. Without thinking Kaniss runs up on stage saying that she will volunteer. Now it’s the boy’s turn. Effie pulls out the name and she announces a guy named Peeta Mellark. Katniss has sworn that she has seen this guy named Peeta. But she can’t figure out how she knows him.
The Middle Now it’s time to go to the Capitol. They meet there alcoholic trainer, Haymitch. He helps them prepare for what’s coming in the area. They head for the practice area to train. They have to learn things like archery, hunting, and finding food. This is a very difficult thing for Katniss because she can only do archery. Some of the weapons are very different from the ones she uses back home. The bow and arrow is bigger and so much more different from the one that her dad made her back home. Now it’s time to impress the Capitol. So she meets her designer, Cinna. He helps Katniss and Peeta look good for the Capitol. So he designs a black suit that they will wear on their chariot, then he will set there costumes on fire. That really got the Capitol’s attention. Now it’s time to get ready for the Hunger Games.
The End Katniss is in the clear tube, ready to fight for her life. She waits and waits for her tube to start going up. They have 60 seconds to say her goodbyes and get ready. He 60 seconds are up, now she has to run and get her supplies that will last her until everyone or she is dead. She sprints for the bright orange bag and takes off. She has to find a good place for her to stay. So she finds a tree and stays there. She has already heard 4 of the cannons go off. Then she waits for the anthem. Once it’s morning, she set off to find water. Then she hears cracking in the woods. She turns around, and it’s twelve year old Rue. Rue is from district 11. the become allies and set off together. They wait for the anthem to go on, then sleep for a little bit. Once it’s morning, they split up and look for food and water. After a couple hours, Katniss whistles but Rue doesn’t reply. Katniss got worried so she went to go check on her. She hears a scream. A little girl’s scream. She calls for Rue and she screams again. She finds Rue tangled in a net. Then a guy from district 1 comes out and throws a spear at her. Katniss then shoots an arrow at him and he instantly dies. Rue is seriously hurt. Katniss starts to sing to her.
Rue slowly starts to close her eyes. She is dead. Katniss is devastated. She reminded Katniss of Prim. Now it’s time to fight. She goes out and starts to look for food, then all of the sudden Careers start to chase her. She makes it past the river and hides in a cave. On her way to the cave she steps on Peeta. He was covered in tree bark. He was badly cut. So the set out together looking for food. There are only four kids left.
