Rules for a good Powerpoint Presentation Your name and date

How much information ? If you put too much information into a Powerpoint presentation it will be very difficult for your audience to take in. Your presentation should NOT have lots of information on the screen which you read out. This is really boring! Your aim is to engage your audience with short, interesting, points and then to expand on them in your speech. Have notes to hand to help you. Write one bullet point for each aspect you intend to talk about. This is a bit like chapters, with each chapter having sub- sections. Whatever you do, DON’T JUST READ FROM THE SCREEN

How much information ? Plan each slide on paper One slide for each topic Brief bullet points about each aspect Engage your audience with short statements which you expand on Keep to words on each slide DO NOT READ FROM THE SCREEN

Using different fonts Fonts which are too small are difficult to see You should use a minimum of font size 20 And a maximum of 48 This is font size 32 in shadowThis is font size 32 in shadow Keep your font size consistent!Keep your font size consistent! Make sure you can see the font on your backgroundMake sure you can see the font on your background If you use make sure your audience can read it!If you use make sure your audience can read it! Have your presentation on a memory stick as well as the network

Using Colours If you use coloured fonts you must be able to see them on your background The colour should fit your subject i.e. a presentation about natural objects might be in green Make sure your writing and background do not clash! Keep your colour scheme consistent

Using Pictures & Effects Use pictures which relate to your subject! Make sure graphics enter at the right time Make sure your background pictures do not obscure the information Ensure your effects are consistent Ensure sound is not too loud to hear your voice

Presentation Have your presentation on a memory stick as well as the network Do not stand in front of the screen or block the beam from the projector Have notes to help you but don’t just read them - know what you are going to say Wait until your audience is looking at you before you start – and stand still!

To sum up Use bullet points Keep to words on a slide One slide for each different topic Font should be minimum 20, maximum 48 Keep font consistent Make sure colours do not clash Make sure you can see the writing on the background Use appropriate picHave your presentation on a memory stick as well as the network Ensure pictures & ensure effects are consistent Do not stand in front of the screen or projector beam Have notes to help you Wait for your audience’s attention and stand still! DO NOT READ FROM THE SCREEN!
