Conversion of The Eunuch Acts 8:26-40

Introduction Nature of God’s calling –A mysterious manner? No –Believed by sincere people What does the Bible say? –Issue is not the sincerity of the person –Who was ever told to wait?

Characters Involved Philip, the evangelist –One of the seven (Acts 6:5; 21:8) –Preaching in Samaria (Acts 8:4-6, 13) –Unable to pass on spiritual gifts (Acts 8:14-19)

Characters Involved An angel –God’s messengers (Acts 8:26) –Inferior to Jesus (Hebrews 1:4, 6, 14) –Ministered to Jesus and worshiped Him (Matthew 4:11) –Could take on human form (Acts 12:7)

Characters Involved The eunuch –T–Treasurer for Candace, queen of Ethiopia (Acts 8:27-29) –D–Devout worshiper of God –H–Had been to Jerusalem to worship

The Holy Spirit –Most misunderstood of all those involved (Acts 8:29, 39) –Hope to clarify that in this study

Roles Played Angel –Not sent to the eunuch –Sent to Philip (Acts 8:26) –Role was to bring Philip and the eunuch together

Roles Played Holy Spirit –D–Did not act directly on the eunuch –I–Instructed Philip to join the chariot and caught Philip away (Acts 8:29, 39, 40) –R–Revealed the Word (John 16:8-10) –S–Sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17; Hebrews 4:12)

Philip –Joined the eunuch, and heard him reading (Isaiah 53:7, 8; Acts 8:28-33) –Preached Jesus (Luke 24:27, 44-48) –Accidental meeting?

Roles Played The eunuch –A seeker of truth (Acts 8:30, 31, 34) –Jewish notion of the Messiah kept many from believing (Acts 7:51-53) –Accepted the Gospel (Acts 2:37; 8:36) –Baptized and rejoiced (Acts 8:38, 39)

Conclusion No emotional experience only Didn’t rely on his feelings like Jacob Have you been saved like the eunuch?
